Challenge
Raising awareness of energy-efficient climate solutions
Viessmann has been successfully pursuing the goal of driving forward the energy transition and creating a sustainable future for years.
In 2017, the company developed the Vitovalor PT2 fuel cell heating system, which won various awards as an “innovative alternative for decentralized power generation”.
The environmentally friendly heating solution generates heat and electricity simultaneously through a chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen. However, this innovative technological approach is not yet familiar to all heating engineers and sales partners, so customer and partner training to raise awareness, communicate and enable this energy-efficient air conditioning solution is essential.
The training is aimed specifically at two target groups:
Viessmann sales partners, such as heating engineers and installers, and internal employees.
Both target groups aim to inform end customers about the Vitovalor PT2 and to familiarize them with the potential of innovative technologies.
IM|S, with its many years of expertise in training, is the perfect partner for the goal of communicating fuel cell technology safely and in detail. Innovative training approaches are used to provide trainees with the necessary knowledge about the Vitovalor PT2 fuel cell heating system.
Solution
Interactive 3D training area for customers and partners
IM|S combines expertise in design, didactics, programming and technical know-how in an interactive 3D training course for Viessmann customers and partners.
With an appealing teaser, a learner from the Viessmann family is informed about the opportunity to participate in an online training course for the Vitovalor PT2 fuel cell heating system. The start of this learning journey is completed by a print display that provides additional information about the training.
The online training in the e-learning module, known as web-based training (WBT), allows the learner to embark on a journey through various Viessmann departments and learn more about the development and operation of the fuel cell heating system. In addition, various tasks have to be solved. This helps the learner to internalize the content of the training.
Sustainable training success is of decisive importance for the success of the company in a competitive environment. This is because the training and further education of customers and partners is not only dependent on the type of training, but above all on the way in which the acquired skills and knowledge are applied in practice. As part of an ongoing development process, customer and partner training is not a one-off event, but an opportunity for continuous further training, which Viessmann successfully masters in cooperation with IM|S.
Before learners complete the online training, they are also referred to the Object-Based Learning module, where they can discover more about the functions and maintenance of the Vitovalor PT2.
Object-Based-Learning (OBL) allows learners to “grasp” 3D objects as if they were real, explore them and view them in a broader context to deepen their understanding. Through digital interaction with real objects, learners can be encouraged to learn independently and a deeper connection to the learning topics can be established. This increases motivation and interest.
The OBL in Viessmann’s customer and partner training focuses on the Vitovalor PT2:
The interactive 3D object enables a detailed and comprehensive view of the fuel cell. Various functions can be triggered to view the inside of the device in cross-section or to understand the flow of gases through the reformer, which is invisible to the naked eye. The object-based learning module is a practical training solution, especially with the various tasks in which the learner can test their knowledge of the device and with step-by-step instructions for safe maintenance.
The online learning elements are then supplemented with classroom training. These on-site training sessions take place at Viessmann’s premises and are led by a qualified trainer. Learners benefit from training on the real Vitovalor PT2 – and are very familiar with the device thanks to object-based learning.
Result
Sensitize. Inform. Empower.
The combination of IM|S learning media is an excellent way of preparing learners for their first customers. Viessmann customers and partners are both sensitized and informed about the innovative fuel cell technology. Creating a better understanding of the product not only promotes acceptance of the heating appliance, but also enables heating engineers and installers to work safely with the Vitovalor PT2.
By providing online materials, Viessmann customers and partners can expand and improve their knowledge of the Vitovalor PT2. The effective e-learning strategy thus contributes to increased customer and partner loyalty.
The more efficient organization of work processes is also advantageous. Internal employees, heating engineers and installers can be trained quickly and effectively at any time and any place using web-based training, without having to invest additional time and resources in costly on-site training.
The innovative training facilitates the onboarding process for new employees, customers and partners. By training them in an interactive and engaging way, they can be integrated into Viessmann’s work processes faster and more effectively, resulting in a smoother onboarding process, faster productivity and higher product appreciation.
In regular jour fixes, Viessmann Subject Matter Experts as the information provider and IM|S as the training expert were able to establish a cooperative partnership. The resulting communication and training tool for customers and partners shows Viessmann as a driver of innovative research that takes responsibility for society, the environment, its employees, as well as its customers and partners.
